Cupcake shop raises nearly $5,700 for church fund in wake of shootings

Cupcake DownSouth raises nearly $5,700 for Mother Emanuel Hope Fund through sales of heart-topped cupcakes.

Lots of companies large and small pitched in with donations after the June 17 shootings at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston that left nine dead.

One of those was Cupcake DownSouth. The shop offered a “Charleston Love” cupcake with a red heart on it for sale at $2.95 with all of the proceeds slated for the Mother Emanuel Hope Fund. Donations at the register were also accepted.

During the sale from June 22 until July 5, the cupcake company owned by Kristin Cobb raised $5,659.

The cupcake shop can be found at 433 King St. in Charleston, 644 Long Point Road in Mount Pleasant and 1213 Lincoln St. in Columbia.
