Charleston’s Bank of South Carolina names new finance chief

The Bank of South Carolina is based at 256 Meeting St. in downtown Charleston.

A Charleston-based lender has named a new chief financial officer.

The Bank of South Carolina Corp. announced that Eugene H. Walpole IV was promoted to CFO effective March 29.

Walpole succeeds Sheryl G. Sharry, who had been with the Charleston-based company since its inception 30 years ago. She took early retirement at age 61.

Her departure “did not arise or result from any disagreement with the Company on any matters relating to the company’s operations, policies or practices,” the bank said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Sharry plans to remain on the parent company’s board of directors if re-elected at the April 12 annual meeting of sharehodlers. She started with the bank as assistant vice president of operations in December 1986. She was promoted to CFO and executive vice president in 2010. She was elected to the board the same year.

Walpole, 31, joined the Bank of South Carolina in 2012 as risk management officer, and he was promoted to senior vice president in October. Previously, he was a senior accountant with Elliott Davis LLC. He is a graduate of Presbyterian College and the University of South Carolina.

The company said it did not enter into an employment agreement or contract with Walpole as a result of his promotion.

The bank operates four branches in downtown Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Summerville and West Ashley.
