Charleston resident Elise Testone has survived the brutal cuts made during Hollywood Week on the popular Fox show "American Idol."

The 28-year-old teacher from Mount Pleasant was among 99 contestants competing in the group and solo auditions in Hollywood. The field was narrowed to 70 on Wednesday night's show.

Testone, who teaches at Music Unlimited in Mount Pleasant, is the daughter of New Jersey residents LuAnne and Victor Testone. She is a 2005 graduate of Coastal Carolina University with a degree in music.

The next episode of "American Idol" airs tonight at 8 on WTAT-TV.
