Beaufort County plant employing 75 people closing

BEAUFORT, S.C. — A company that makes filtration systems for the automotive industry is closing its plant in Beaufort County that employs 75 people.

The Beaufort Gazette reports that Parker Hannifin’s Racor Division is moving the jobs to other plants, mainly in Mississippi and California. The Beaufort plant employs 57 fulltime workers while the other workers are temporary.

The company plans to close the plant by the end of the year but does not expect any layoffs until October.

The company says some workers will be able to transfer to other plants. It says the demand for the company’s products did not match the manufacturing capability of the Beaufort plant.
