Some big-box retail space is about to become vacant in North Charleston.

An iconic baby item store is closing for good today, and its parent company will close all of its namesake shops by week's end.

Babies R Us, an affiliate of the bankrupt Toys R Us franchise, will no longer be in business after 9 p.m.

A clerk at the store on Rivers Avenue said the shop might not stay open that long to the public. The shop began liquidating its merchandise in the spring after parent Toys R Us filed for bankruptcy last year and failed to find a buyer.
