Andolini's in West Ashley may be replaced by Starbucks

Andolini's in West Ashley

Andolini's Pizza in West Ashley will soon be replaced by a Starbucks coffee shop.

The coffee giant has applied to demolish the pizzeria building at 1117 Savannah Highway and build a new cafe with a drive-thru lane in its place, according to site plans recently submitted to the Charleston Technical Review Committee.

David Odle, owner of Andolini's, said they will relocate the pizza place if all the plans are approved by the city. Employees of the pizza shop on Savannah Highway last week said they had not been informed of any plans to close the restaurant.

Vanishing acts

While many new businesses are heading to upper King Street, others have quietly departed the stretch between Calhoun and Spring streets.

Butterfly Consignment, one of the corridor's handful of clothing retailers, left its post at 482 King last month and merged with its other location at 624-H Long Point Road in Mount Pleasant. A store newsletter sent to customers said the business moved because the rent for the downtown space had doubled, and the shortage of parking had become an issue.

Huger's Fine Food & Entertainment, a Gullah food joint and late-night bar, has also vacated its space at 587 King St. Owners of the building near Spring Street are in search of a new tenant, according to Patrick Price of PrimeSouth Group. Further details were not available.

New sweet spot

Freddo Artisanal Helado, a gelato and coffee bar, plans to open at 239½ King St. in place of Buckar Jewelry Architects, which recently moved to 17 Princess St. Freddo Artisanal Helado is a dessert chain based in Argentina, and it doesn't appear to have any other locations in the United States.
