Officials have identified a body found Thursday in a West Ashley pond as that of Kathryn Keener, Charleston County Deputy Coroner Brittney Martin said.

Keener, 49, of Bidwell Circle, had been missing since Saturday. She spoke with her mother Saturday afternoon but didn't show up for her mother's birthday party later that night.

Her family found her home unlocked and a cigarette left burning in an ashtray. But Keener, her purse and her white, 2003 Toyota 4Runner were gone.

Authorities are investigating her death as a homicide.

Charleston County Sheriff's Office this afternoon released an incident report that said Keener's vehicle was found burning about 5:10 p.m. Saturday behind a church on Bear Swamp Road. The vehicle was burned beyond recognition and towed away.

On Thursday, a cadaver dog hit on the spot where the vehicle burned and also hit at the edge of an adjacent pond. About 7:30 p.m., divers found a body floating in the pond.
