Body found at home is woman reported missing last week

Angela Trent

JAMES ISLAND --- A woman who had been missing a week was found dead Thursday, but had not been dead the entire time she was missing, authorities said Friday.

Angela Trent, 47, who reportedly left her 947 Mikell Drive home after threatening to harm herself on Nov. 16 was found dead by a relative on Thanksgiving Day. The body was found in a shed behind the home, authorities said.

Neighbors said Trent's death was an apparent suicide. Charleston County sheriff's spokesman Maj. Jim Brady would not discuss details and said only that the death is under investigation.

Charleston County Deputy Coroner Scott Ramsey said Friday evening that Trent did not die on the day she left home.

"She wasn't dead the entire time she was missing. She wasn't dead a week," Ransey said. He said he can't yet pinpoint the time or date of her death, or state the cause of death.

Until the autopsy is completed, he said, the coroner's office won't comment on anything else regarding the death.

Her adult son reported Trent missing on Nov. 17, the day after she left home in a gold Chrysler Town and Country minivan. Officials said she had threatened to hurt herself before driving away at around 6 p.m. on Nov. 16.

Investigators found the missing van Tuesday behind several sheds near Stiles Point Elementary School, just down the street from the home where Trent lived. Sheriff's and coroner's officials returned to the family home Thursday afternoon to recover the body.

When asked if the shed had been searched while Trent was missing, Brady said that is among matters that are under investigation.

Neighbors, many of whom knew Trent by her childhood nickname "Angie," seemed surprised by news of her death. They said the woman had moved back to the home where she grew up to help her aging mother after the death of Trent's father.

Trent, according to neighbors, had two children of her own.
