Soft shell crabs

Soft shell crabs have arrived on local menus around the Lowcountry. 

The wait is over. Soft shell crabs have started showing up at restaurants around the Lowcountry.

Red Drum, 803 Coleman Blvd., Mount Pleasant, announced Thursday's arrival of soft shell crabs from McClellanville via Instagram with the caption, "Guess what's back?" 

Soft shell crab season is a short one. It typically stretches a couple weeks before and after Easter, so, as Red Drum's caption noted, it's recommended to "get them while you can." 

Wondering where to catch soft shell crabs on local menus? Read on for a list, which will be updated as softie season goes on. 

Cru Cafe, 18 Pinckney St., serves fried soft shell crab over corn, onion, peppers with an arugula salad. 

The Ordinary, 544 King St., has cornmeal dusted soft shell crab with asparagus, snap peas and spring onion aioli. 

Poe's Tavern on Sullivan's Island posted on Instagram about the softie season "frenzy" with a photo of its fried contribution. 

Purlieu, 237 Fishburne St., has added a roasted soft shell crab to its menu. The dish comes with seared baby romaine, cucumber, radish, chervil, rye bread crumbs and black pepper Parmesan dressing.

Hank's Seafood, 10 Hayne St., promises different recipes each evening during soft shell crab season. 

Of soft shell crabs, Bacco, 976 Houston Northcutt Blvd., Mount Pleasant, announced simply, "We got 'em." 

Grace & Grit, 320 Wingo Way, Mount Pleasant, got some softies from Livingston's Bulls Bay Seafood

Zero Restaurant + Bar, 0 George St., has added a tempura soft shell crab dish to its tasting menu. 

You can also find soft shell crab specials at FIG, 232 Meeting St. and Pier 41, 1039 S.C. Highway 41, Mount Pleasant, which, as of early March, is now open for lunch Monday through Friday. 

Tavern + Table, 100 Church St., Mount Pleasant, is serving soft shell crab sandwiches on house made potato rolls. 

Zen Asian Fusion, 2037 Sam Rittenberg Blvd., has ginger and scallion soft shell crab. 

For $14.99, you can get a breaded soft shell crab sandwich and sides at Shuckin' Shack Oyster Bar in Summerville.

Fleet Landing, 186 Concord St., is serving the Soft Shell Crab BLT with choice of side.

Chef Brandon Buck at Tradd’s is pairing pan-roasted soft shell crabs with preserved lemon and moscatel puree and a salad. 

Indaco, 526 King St., is serving semolina-fried soft shell crab on top of squid ink pasta. 

Oak, 17 Broad St., is serving soft shell crab with a side of ribeye.

Macintosh, 479 King St., has a soft shell crab sandwich with watercress, pickled onions, and sambal mayo with a side of fries.

Soft shell crab specials are available at Saltwater Cowboys, 130 Mill St, Mount Pleasant, and Hyman’s Seafood, 215 Meeting St.
