Charleston had a flurry of openings in November and December with the Getaway, Bar Felix and Vintage Lounge debuting within weeks (and a few doors down) of each other along with the openings of Tu, Purlieu and 1 Broad. As 2018 gets rolling, it looks like the theme for this year will be expansion from existing restaurants. Here's what's on our radar:
Fuji Sushi Bar & Grill will open its fourth location at 585 King St. Qin Jiang operates Fuji in Mount Pleasant, Kiawah and North Charleston and says the King Street location should be open by May.
Swig and Swine is expanding with a third location in Mount Pleasant at the Shipyard Park development to join the Summerville and West Ashley operations.
Tattooed Moose is also opening a third location, this one at the flailing Citadel Mall, which is being targeted by city planners for a much-needed resurrection.
Mex One is planning an ambitious expansion on Morrison Drive with plans for a two-story building that's still working its way through the city approval process.
The popular Mount Pleasant Mozzo Deli will be moving into the former donut spot on Meeting Street, as Eater reported earlier this week, making that the second location.
All of these restaurants fall into that mid-range casual dining category, which is finally seeing growth according to Nation's Restaurant News. If this trend stays strong, might we see some of these chains move into other markets?
