Blue Rose Cafe

Corned beef and cabbage was just one of the Irish specialties on the Bluerose Cafe menu.

West Ashley’s favorite Irishman Denis O’Doherty announced today that he has sold his restaurant Bluerose Cafe and will be retiring.

News of his retirement was met with a resounding “Noooooo!” from regulars. Since 2004, O’Doherty, has run his eclectic little restaurant on St. Andrews Boulevard, serving a loyal contingent of neighbors and friends breakfast, lunch and dinner with enough Irish specialties to keep it authentic.

O’Doherty posted a note on social media promising that the new owners will take the restaurant to the next level and continue to serve the neighborhood.

“Blessed would be an understatement for all the wonderful, crazy and eccentric people I have had the pleasure of meeting," he wrote. "The many gifts and awards you have bestowed upon me, I will carry on my journey. I will be forever grateful to all of you for allowing me into your lives.”

A hospitality and development company called The Montford Group will be taking over operations this week.
