An 8-foot granite monument with the names of 263 Confederate soldiers from Berkeley County will be unveiled Saturday.

The monument is outside the museum at Old Santee Canal Park in Moncks Corner.

The names were collected and verified and the money raised by the General Ellison Capers Camp of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans and the CSS David Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

The dedication is at 10 a.m. Saturday. Admission is free for the ceremony.

The ceremony is scheduled to include a gun and cannon salute and remarks by Republican state Sen. Glenn McConnell of Charleston, a Confederate re-enactor.

The park is at 950 Stony Landing Road, which comes off Rembert C. Dennis Boulevard.
