BEAUFORT — People will again get the boot if they have overdue parking tickets in Beaufort.
The Beaufort Gazette reports the city resumed using boots this month after 450 drivers ran up almost $42,000 in overdue parking fines.
The city in the past has used the wheel boots to immobilize vehicles. But that stopped about two years ago when the city hired Lanier Parking Solutions to enforce parking rules.
When Lanier recently brought the number of overdue tickets to Police Chief Matt Clancy, officials decided to use the boots again.
A vehicle can be booted if the owner has at least three tickets overdue by 15 days or more.
One motorist has 39 unpaid tickets.
