MYRTLE BEACH — Former Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer has raised the most money so far in the race to become congressman from South Carolina’s new 7th Congressional District.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports (http://bit.ly/zDu8Ku) that campaign finance reports filed Tuesday show Bauer had raised $302,000 through the end of last year. That includes a $150,000 personal loan.

Bauer is running in a nine-way race for the GOP nomination in the predominantly Republican district in the northeastern corner of the state.

There are also five Democrats seeking the seat that was created because of population growth reflected in the last Census.
