GOOSE CREEK — Officers investigating a bank robbery Friday afternoon found themselves outside the door of a nearby apartment with the suspect possibly inside.

Goose Creek police officers used an apartment manager's key to enter the Shannon Place apartment but no one was inside, according to an incident report released on Monday.

Police were investigating a robbery that happened about 3:30 p.m. at the First Federal Bank on St. James Avenue.

According to the police report, a white male wearing a white shirt, dark shorts, dark baseball hat and sunglasses fled on foot after stealing $2,000 from the bank. The suspect headed toward a wooded area near Los Arcos Mexican Restaurant adjacent to the bank.

Investigators followed a police dog to Shannon Place Apartments where a resident told police she heard someone running up the stairs shortly before investigators arrived, the report said.

Investigators entered the apartment with a key from the main office because the suspect was possibly armed and dangerous.

Investigators searched the unit, but no evidence or suspect was found. The robbery remains under investigation.
