Boat shopping bears at least one similarity with trolling for cars: Perusers want to physically inspect their choices before they make the plunge to buy.
Yet watercraft depots face some obstacles not found at vehicle dealerships. Test-piloting vessels can be trickier than wheeling cars off a lot. Also, purchasers may not be as familiar with all the models sold at a boat outfit, whereas car stores often include the brand names in the company title.
Coastal Carolina Yacht Sales wants to counteract those difficulties. To gain more exposure while assisting the consumer, the outlet is holding a “demo” day Saturday at its home base at 145 Lockwood Blvd. aside the Bristol Marina. The event along the Ashley River near Brittlebank Park will be 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Interested parties can take part by appointment.
Maria Jones, office manager, says the demonstrations are “just to make people aware” of the dealership and what it has to offer.
Coastal Carolina Yacht Sales is the authorized dealer for Tiara Yachts, Back Cove Yachts and Sabre Yachts as well as Pursuit Boats and Jupiter Boats. Jones says customers may not be aware the dealership sells the center-console Jupiter brand. “Center consoles are more of what people want,” she said.
Joe Toland, sales associate, will be on hand to answer customers’ questions and give them more information on the sea trial-ready vessels. He also will be available “if they want to get out (and) be more familiar with the boat,” she said.
From the dock, people can board the vessels and take close-up looks at them, she added. The dealership typically stores the boats and yachts on lifts out of the water.
The demo day is a new feature for Coastal Carolina Yacht Sales. “We are trying it out to see what happens,” Jones said. If the event proves popular, the retailer likely will host more of them, she said.
