The bar has been raised in Charleston for luxury and refinement now that Baker Motor Company has completed renovations on its 66,000-square-foot Baker Buick GMC dealership on Savannah Highway.
Construction began in March 2014 and was completed thirteen months later in April. The dealership is at 1621 Savannah Highway just south of the company’s impressive Cadillac building.
Baker Buick GMC Cadillac unveiled the new look on May 7 at a party for Buick GMC and Cadillac clients, employees and community members.
“This building is one of the largest of its kind — surpassing all expectations with absolute luxury and refinement,” said Tommy B. Baker, president of Baker Buick GMC Cadillac and Baker Motor Company in Charleston and Mount Pleasant.
The sprawling building is home to Buick GMC sales, certified service with a 16-bay shop and automated entry to the covered, drive-up assistance area; and a certified collision center available to the entire 12-brand dealer group.
“Our staff and technology are dedicated to providing the proper Buick and GMC experience,” Baker said at the grand opening. “This building allows our company to immerse ourselves in providing the best customer experience in the industry.”
According to Baker Buick GMC, the newly recrafted dealership features:
- Specialized Buick GMC sales and service staff. The facility will house about 80 employees.
- State-of-the-art showroom able to feature 20 cars. It’s “capable of holding one of every Buick and GMC model indoors to enhance the customer experience — regardless of weather.”
- A business center, two indoor truck accessory displays and a two-story parts department.
- Free Saturday car washes for customers, a feature launched before the new building opened.
According to Baker Buick GMC, clients can also “enjoy the inviting client lounges” that feature modern leather furniture, couches, flat screen televisions, computers and a coffee bar.

Customers aren’t the only group to revel in the building’s high-end perks.
As one of Tommy Baker’s priorities, the dealership features a top-of-the-line exercise center “to complement the company’s wellness initiatives that support active and healthy lifestyles.”
The fitness area is home to the “Baker Fit” program and hosts a certified personal trainer and touts a consultation room; yoga and stretch room; cardio area with three treadmills, an elliptical, a stationary bike and rowing machine; a strength training room with free weights and weight machines; and showers.
“The exercise facilities and personal trainer are available to all Baker Motor Company employees at no charge,” the company said.
“With the Buick and GMC brand growing in sales and customer satisfaction,” Baker said, “a large facility was needed to handle customer demand and provide the experience our clients have come to expect of our dealerships.”
