• Darby Racing Club will hold its first car, bike and truck/SUV show 5-9 p.m. at Hooters restaurant, 2171 Northwoods Blvd. in North Charleston. Registration is $25 anytime before the show and 5-7 p.m. the day of the event. Admission price is $5 a person. Awards will be given out at 8:30 p.m. for Best Car, Best Motorcycle and Best Truck/SUV. • The Steel Pony Open Car & Bike Show will be held 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at Charleston Tea Plantation on Wadmalaw Island. Registration, which is $15 and includes a tour of the tea plantation, will be 11 a.m.-noon. Judging will be at 3 p.m. Categories include cars 1942 and prior, 1943-59, 1960-71 and 1972-2012; street rods; trucks and motorcycles. There will be kids activities, misting tents, Margarita Man and food from Jack’s Cosmic Dogs. Eddie Bush and Southwood will provide live entertainment. Sponsors are Red’s Icehouse, Lowcountry Harley Davidson, Chili’s and McDonald’s.Steel Pony benefits Learn Horse Rescue, a nonprofit group geared to educate youth, prospective owners and owners concerning the proper care of animals. • The Charleston Expo Car Show will be held 11 a.m.-5 p.m. in a new location, Blackbaud Stadium on Daniel Island. Pre-register online and be eligible for a giveaway. Registration is $25 until Aug. 23 and $30 after. Day-of-show check-in is 9:30-11 a.m. Car classes are: open for years 1959 and earlier, 1960-69, 1970-84, 1985-2000 and 2001-present; Mustangs years 1964-73, 1974-93 and 1994-present and specialty; Camaros and Firebirds years 1967-69, 1970-81, 1982-2002 and 2010-present; Corvettes years 1953-67, 1968-96, 1997-2004 and 2005-present; mild and wild sport compacts; stock and modified trucks; street rods; motorcycles; imports; VWs; Porsches; BMWs; British; Corvairs; track cars; and works in progress. There also will be awards for Best of Show, Best Engine, Best Paint, Best Interior, Best Stereo, People’s Choice and Sponsor Best of Show. The car club with the most vehicles in the show will win a prize. The show will be held rain or shine. Featured vehicles include Travis Lyon’s restored Decepticon Motormaster derived from the Transformer series; actress Natalie Wood’s Mercedes-Benz 300SL; the Muntz Jet, designed by racing-car builder Frank Curtis and forerunner to autos built by four-track cartridge inventor Earl “Mad Man” Muntz; and a 600-plus horsepower 1964 Olds Cutlass that travels to car shows nationwide. The Expo will host “Take a Kid to a Car Show,” an awareness program started by a wing of the Specialty Equipment Market Association. Along with the show, the Expo will have specialists giving product knowledge and live demos on 3M clear bra, wheel repair, upholstery repair, paintless dent repair, car audio, vinyl wraps, headlight restoration, performance shops, window tinting, detailing and paint touch-up. Leh Keen with Brumos Racing will be signing autographs. There will be live music, kids zone, food, race simulator and all-terrain vehicles. The event benefits the Dillon Frisbie Foundation.
