CONWAY — Atlantic Beach Mayor Retha Pierce Sturdivant is in trouble with the law again.
Horry County jail records show the 62-year-old mayor was arrested Sunday on a drunken driving charge. No other details were available as Sturdivant awaits a bond hearing. It wasn’t clear if she has a lawyer.
She is serving probation after being found guilty of resisting arrest on Christmas Day 2007.
Last July, a prosecutor dismissed a charge of leaving the scene of an accident in a 2009 hit-and-run.
A DUI charge was dismissed against Studivant two years ago after officials said breathalyzer and urine tests came back negative. In January of 2010 she was charged with trespassing at town hall in a dispute with town staffers. That charge was also dismissed.
