A 17-year-old Summerville man was arrested Monday after Goose Creek police say he robbed a Kangaroo gas station at gunpoint in January.

Robert Orlando Jones of Crooked Stick Court is charged with armed robbery with a deadly weapon, kidnapping and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

The robbery occurred about 8:20 a.m. Jan. 24, when Jones is accused of holding up a clerk at gunpoint at the Kangaroo gas station at 215 Red Bank Road, according to police. Police released surveillance photos after the robbery, which is what led to Jones’ arrest, according to a Monday media release.

Police said surveillance video shows the man approach the store on foot, walk past the front door, take a gun out of his waistband and put it in a sweatshirt pocket. Then he walked into the store and looked at doughnuts while waiting for customers to clear out, opening the doors of the display case and touching a paper bag, according to the incident report. When he and the clerk were alone, he pulled out a gun and pointed it at the clerk. He took an unknown amount of cash and left the store.

The media release states that Jones is a suspect in a similar robbery in Berkeley County.
