41-year-old man arrested on child porn charges

Joseph Kevin Mills

A Charleston police investigator helped nab a 41-year-old Gaffney man on child pornography charges.

Joseph Kevin Mills was arrested Wednesday and charged with two counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, according to an announcement Thursday from S.C. Attorney General Alan Wilson’s office. Each count can be punished by up to 10 years in prison.

Mills was being held in the Cherokee County jail on $20,000 bail Thursday.

A Charleston police officer who investigates child porn picked up Gaffney’s activity and called in the State Law Enforcement Division, which made the arrest, according to Mark Powell, spokesman for Wilson.

Investigators say Mills exchanged a file containing child pornography through peer-to-peer file sharing. Agents seized a computer and two cellphones.

The Attorney General’s Office will prosecute the case.
