15-year-old charged in equipment theft from Stratford High School

A 15-year-old boy has been charged in the theft of a $12,000 all-terrain vehicle and other equipment that were stolen from Stratford High School.

Berkeley County sheriff’s deputies charged the teen with receiving or possessing stolen property, a felony, a news release stated. He was transported to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia.

A tip from the community led to the recovery of the John Deere Gator ATV and a grill worth $4,000, according to sheriff’s deputies. Investigators are still searching for a $12,000 Bad Boy lawn mower that was also reported stolen.

Chief Deputy Rick Ollic, who is serving as interim sheriff, in a statement thanked the community for assisting in the investigation, saying “these types of investigations are much more successful when the community provides valuable information which aids in the investigation.”

Anyone with information about the stolen mower can contact Berkeley County sheriff’s deputies at 709-4412.
