WebMD: Charleston fourth-sickest city this week

Flu vaccine was administered to MUSC employees last October in Charleston. According to a WebMD survey, Charleston is the fourth-sickest city in the country.

Charleston is the fourth-sickest city in the country, according to WebMD's latest "Top 10 Sickest Cities" survey.

The list was generated using data from www.WebMD.com. Patients enter their symptoms into WebMD's Symptom Checker and the website is able to determine where the flu is most rampant based on their location.

Austin, Texas, is the sickest city this week, according to the results.

The list is not a completely accurate measure of flu activity, but state health department data confirms that the flu is widespread across South Carolina.

According to its most recent weekly flu report, thousands of people were sick at the end of December.

The number of positive rapid antigen tests reported to the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control during the week ending Dec. 27 approached 10,000 - more than twice as many as the same week last year.
