Walterboro man identified as victim in Saturday’s fatal Colleton County crash

The driver of a 2008 Chevy Malibu died Saturday morning after a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 15 in Colleton County.

A 21-year-old Walterboro man died Saturday in a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 15 in Colleton County.

Dwayne Bryant died of multiple traumas, according to Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey. Three others were injured in the crash, which occurred just before 5:15 a.m. Saturday.

Sgt. Bob Beres of the S.C. Highway Patrol said the driver of a 2004 Chevrolet Trail Blazer was travelling north on U.S. 15 near Pleasant Grove Road when a 2008 Chevy Malibu traveling south crossed the center line and collided with the 2004 Chevrolet.

Bryant was driving the Malibu and died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash, according to Colleton County Fire-Rescue officials. He was not wearing a seat belt.

One of two passengers in the Malibu was flown by helicopter to Medical University Hospital in critical condition, fire and rescue officials reported. His condition Sunday was unknown.

The other passenger in the Malibu and the driver of the Trail Blazer were taken to Colleton Regional Medical Center.
