WALTERBORO -- A Walterboro couple is accused of stealing a tanker and thousands of gallons of fuel from a Colleton County armory.

Sheriff’s deputies say 42-year-old Clarence Edward Risher, Jr., and his wife, 43-year-old and Melinda Montjoy Risher, were arrested earlier this week.

Authorities say a tanker filled with 3,600 gallons of diesel fuel disappeared from a National Guard Armory between April 26 and April 29.

The tanker was returned early Tuesday with no fuel inside. Deputies ultimately recovered more than 2,600 gallons of the fuel and arrested the Rishers.

It wasn’t known if the couple had attorneys. Authorities say more arrests are possible.
