USC-Beaufort opens $3.5 million recreation, athletic center

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — The University of South Carolina Beaufort has opened a new athletics and recreation center that will help athletes and save money.

The Beaufort Gazette reports the new facility with a basketball court and other training facilities opened at the university’s campus near Hilton Head Island on Monday.

The center provides better training facilities for the nine sports in which the Sand Sharks participate. Until now, the school had to lease space at other facilities throughout Beaufort County.

University of South Carolina President Harris Pastides will attend an official ribbon- cutting ceremony for the new athletics and recreation center next month.
