Two wounded in apparent drug deal gone bad in West Ashley

Douglas Avenue in the Air Harbor neighborhood in West Ashley was taped off after a shooting late Sunday afternoon.

A man was shot in the stomach and another hit in the head with a gun in an apparent drug deal gone bad in West Ashley Sunday afternoon, according to the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office.

The two were wounded shortly after 5 p.m. on Douglas Avenue, which is in the Air Harbor neighborhood off Savannah Highway. Both were taken to Medical University Hospital for treatment, Sheriff’s Maj. Eric Watson said.

Initial investigation indicates the two men went to 368 Douglas Ave. to buy drugs, Watson said. Deputies were told the man believed to be the shooter drove off in a newer model Burgundy Chrysler.
