Traffic stalled near Red Bank Road after wreck involving Charleston County deputy

A multi-county pursuit ended in a wreck near Red Bank Road after a Charleston County deputy broadsided the vehicle driven by the suspect.

South Cranford Road was blocked off tonight after a wreck involving a Charleston County sheriff’s deputy and a suspect.

Sheriff’s Maj. Jim Brady confirmed that the wreck, which occurred around 6:30 p.m. near Red Bank Road in Goose Creek, involved a Charleston County deputy in pursuit of a fleeing driver.

According to reports, the chase began in Charleston County and ended when the suspect, driving a red Dodge vehicle, attempted to make a U-turn and was broadsided by the deputy.

The suspect is in custody, and the deputy was taken to the hospital for observation. Their identities have not yet been released.
