Actor Will Patton, a Charleston native known for “Remember the Titans” and “Armageddon,” was arrested Tuesday night on the Isle of Palms and charged with driving under the influence.
Patton, 60, has appeared in more than 80 films since 1981 and is currently playing Col. Dan Weaver in the TNT science fiction series “Falling Skies.” His biography notes that he was born in Charleston.
The incident report from Isle of Palms police listed Patton’s address as West 17th Street in New York and gave no indication why Patton was on the island.
Around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, an officer saw a blue Dodge pickup come out of the parking lot of the Island Center and turn right toward the IOP connector, according to the report. The officer said the truck was driving slowly and crossed the center line several times before he pulled the truck over near 9th Avenue.
The report noted that Patton’s eyes were glassy and bloodshot, and he had trouble producing his vehicle registration, even though he picked it up several times and put it back down.
The arresting officer said he asked Patton if he had been drinking, and he replied, “Not too much, a couple bottles ... er ... couple of glasses of wine.”
Patton had to lean against the truck for balance when he got out and failed a series of field sobriety tests, according to the report. He refused a blood alcohol test at the police station and was taken to the Charleston County jail. There was no indication he gave officers any trouble. He was released Wednesday on a $997 personal recognizance bond.
