Three horses seized on Johns Island

Susan Rebecca Housley, shown here in 2010, was cited with two counts of ill-treatment of animals and three horses were removed from her Johns Island property on Friday, the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office said.

Three horses were seized Friday on Johns Island and the owner was cited for two counts of ill-treatment of an animal, officials said.

The owner is Susan Rebecca Housley of Plowground Road, according to an incident report.

Officials responded to the location after receiving an anonymous tip from a concerned citizen who said the animals were being neglected, the report states.

Housley, a former College of Charleston riding instructor, had six horses taken from her property in 2010 by sheriff’s deputies, after claims of neglect were made. One of the animals was later returned.
