A band of thunderstorms Sunday afternoon will bring a threat of twisters in the Lowcountry.

The risk for severe weather will stretch from 2 to 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The system prompted Weather Service forecasters to issue a tornado watch for Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties that will last until 8 p.m.

The threat of severe weather should subside by 11 p.m.

“Conditions are favorable for some storms to become severe with damaging winds and perhaps an isolated tornado,” the Weather Service said in a statement.

Regardless of storms, the skies will be cloudy and could drop up to another half-inch of rain. But the lack of sunshine during the day also will keep the tornado threat to a minimum.

A cold front sweeping through the Charleston area are will bring another threat of severe thunderstorms Monday night.
