Third teen arrested in fatal shooting in Dorchester County

Dorchester County sheriff’s deputies have arrested Marques Lamont Butler, 18, of Appian Way on charges of murder and attempted robbery in connection with the shooting death of Gerrod Metoyer.

Dorchester County sheriff’s deputies arrested on Thursday a third teenager on charges related to the shooting death of a man last month near North Charleston.

Marques Lamont Butler, 18, of Appian Way in North Charleston is being held at the Dorchester County jail on charges of murder and attempted robbery, Capt. Tony Phinney said.

Deputies earlier this week arrested Deshawn Khalil Ford, 16, of Pleasant Ridge Drive in North Charleston and a 14-year-old boy, who has not been named because of his age. Both face the same charges as Butler in connection with the June 30 slaying of 29-year-old Gerrod Metoyer.

The man’s body was found on Ashley Phosphate Road near Dorchester Manor Boulevard outside of North Charleston. He suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

Further details about what led to the shooting were not immediately available Thursday.

Butler is expected to have a bond hearing Friday morning, Phinney said.
