What: Special guided tours focus on camellias throughout the original gardens as well as the “new” camellia garden of the 1950s. Admire hundreds of varieties, including the 1786 Reine des Fleurs, one of the first camellias planted in America.

What: Travel back in time a hundred years to the era dominated by the Civil War, the 1860s, with an exclusive behind-the-scenes storeroom fashion tour at The Charleston Museum. Enjoy women’s dresses and undergarments, men’s uniforms and an array of accessories, all perfect for the well-dressed Charlestonian of the day. This is a special Fashion Flashback exhibit, separate from the current 1920s-1960s exhibit. Reservations required.

Lisa Barr, international journalist and author of the award-winning, historical fiction thriller “Fugitive Colors” will be the guest speaker, presented by the Charleston JCC Jewish Bookfest, the Citadel Fine Arts Program and the Friends of Daniel Library. In the book, Hitler tries to ruthlessly destroy the avant-garde in the 1930s, but there is one young painter who refuses to let this happen. Following Barr’s presentation, books will be available for purchase and signing during a dessert reception at the Museum Reading Room in Daniel Library.
