Local author Christopher Byrd Downey will discuss the pirate Stede Bonnet at the Old Exchange Building and Provost Dungeon on Wednesday.
Downey, who recently published “Stede Bonnet —Charleston’s Gentleman Pirate” will speak at 6 p.m. In conjunction, the Old Exchange Building will display a collection of maritime/pirate artwork donated by the former Buccaneer restaurant.
“Downey’s engaging book provided a wealth of information on the background and exploits of one of history’s strangest characters,” said Michael Coker, assistant to the director at the Old Exchange Building.
The event is free, but attendees are asked to consider a $3 donation to the museum. The Old Exchange Building is located at 122 East Bay St. in downtown Charleston.
