SWAT team captures man who showed up uninvited at mom’s Seabrook Island house

SWAT team members took a man into custody Tuesday afternoon after he refused to leave his parents’ Seabrook Island house.

The situation started around 11 a.m., when Charleston County Sheriff’s Office hostage negotiators were sent to the home on Andell Way. The man’s mother had found him in the house, and he did not have permission to be there, sheriff’s Maj. Eric Watson said.

The SWAT team was later summoned to the scene in an attempt to defuse the situation. Its members were successful to that end before 2 p.m., when the man was captured without incident, Watson said.

He was taken away for a mental evaluation, Watson added.
