A man believed to be on a spree of robbing stores around the state has been charged in armed robberies at Citadel and Northwoods malls last month.
Charleston and North Charleston police have pinned the local robberies on Stanley Moultrie, 48, of Penny Royal Road in Georgetown. He’s being held in the Georgetown County jail on armed robbery and kidnapping charges. He was booked into jail there Saturday night.
A clerk at Spencer’s in Northwoods Mall in North Charleston was robbed at knifepoint about noon Jan. 14.
A man with a knife robbed a clerk at Journeys in Citadel Mall in West Ashley around noon Friday. Charleston police released a surveillance photo of him.
After the Citadel Mall robbery, Charleston Police Detective Dan English learned that similar armed robberies had occurred in Georgetown and Myrtle Beach, police spokesman Charles Francis said. English contacted the Georgetown Police Department and learned that the vehicle used in the Georgetown armed robbery matched the description of the one used in the armed robbery at Journeys.
Police carried out a search warrant at Moultrie’s house and recovered evidence that linked him to the Citadel Mall robbery, Francis said.
Moultrie is being charged with armed robbery and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a violent crime in connection that robbery.
The clerk at Spencer’s identified Moultrie as the robber from a photo lineup Monday night, North Charleston police spokesman Spencer Pryor said. Moultrie is being charged with armed robbery, second-degree assault, kidnapping and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime in connection with that robbery.
