An arrest has been made after a woman was shot to death early Saturday in an unincorporated enclave of Mount Pleasant.

Tameka Mitchell, 38, was killed around 2:30 a.m. on Snowden Road, an unincorporated community off Long Point Road that’s patrolled by Mount Pleasant police.

Police named Jimmy Coaxum, 28, of Fayetteville, N.C., as a suspect. Coaxum was arrested in Fayetteville on Monday and charged with murder, Investigator Chip Googe said.

Coaxum was being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center awaiting extradition back to Charleston.

Mitchell was a resident of Wadmalaw Island and was also known as Tameka Lynn Thompson, according to a death notice from Walker’s Mortuary, which was handling her funeral.
