Summerville police officer charged with forcibly assaulting woman

Pleas Challie Faglie III

A Summerville police officer was arrested Sunday after forcefully fondling and kissing a woman, according to the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office.

Pleas Challie Faglie III, 38, of Martins Creek Boulevard in Summerville, is charged with first-degree assault and battery and received a $20,000 personal recognizance bond Monday.

Dorchester County sheriff’s deputies responded just before 10 p.m. Sunday to the victim’s home for a report of assault and battery. He allegedly touched the woman’s private parts without permission.

The woman told officers that Faglie pushed her against a wall and tried to kiss her, but she told him, “no.” He then began to forcefully fondle and kiss her on her mouth and breast, the arrest affidavit states.

Capt. Tony Phinney said Faglie was off duty when the alleged assault occurred.

The Summerville Police Department requested that the Sheriff’s Office investigate because Faglie works there. The department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
