Summerville man arrested in Jan. 20 hit-and-run fatality in North Charleston

A Summerville man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a Jan. 20 hit-and-run in North Charleston that left a motorcyclist dead.

Agustin Guzman Medina, 29, of Jennifer Lane is charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. He was arrested after speaking with investigators at the North Charleston Police Department, according to spokesman Spencer Pryor.

Medina is accused of killing 28-year-old Richard Martin, of Summerville, in a hit-and-run crash that occurred just before 7 p.m. on U.S. Highway 78 at the entrance to Plantation Acres Mobile Home Park.

Pryor previously said witnesses reported that Martin was traveling west on a motorcycle when a van turned in front of him, struck the bike and kept going. Martin was wearing a helmet, he said.

Police have recovered Medina’s van, Pryor said. Medina is expected in court Wednesday for a bail hearing.
