Student expelled for creating racist photo at Greenville private school

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Administrators at a private school in Greenville have expelled a student they say created a photo of black students with nooses drawn around their necks.

The Greenville News reported that administrators at Christ Church Episcopal School learned of the photograph Monday.

Headmaster Leonard Kupersmith said the photo was created on the social media messaging app Snapchat and had been shared through text messages.

The picture showed four male high school students sitting next to each other in class. The modified picture has nooses drawn around their necks. A swastika appears in the corner of the photo.

Kupersmith told parents in an email Tuesday that it was “repugnant.”

He says that an investigation determined that only one student was responsible for the picture and that student has now been expelled.
