A committee of three Charleston County Council members has been appointed to examine the current financial situation of the St. Paul Fire District.
The panel includes council Vice Chairman Vic Rawl and council members Anna Johnson and Dickie Schweers.
“Our purpose is to identify the specific funding issues and what solutions are available,” the county said in a statement Wednesday.
Fire district officials have said that a funding shortfall has affected staffing. District fire stations serve Hollywood, Ravenel, Adams Run, Meggett and Edisto Island.
“Public safety is an essential service and a top priority at Charleston County. Our authority on this issue is limited by law, but we will work to help our citizens as much as it is possible,” the county said.
