One of the hottest tickets in town, the fifth annual Southeastern Beard & Moustache Championships is back for another year. Hosted by the Holy City Beard & Moustache Society, men and women will be competing in categories that include sideburns, goatee, Donegal/Amish, moustache (styled and natural), full beard styled moustache, college beard, full beard freestyle, partial beard freestyle, ladies artificial (creative and realistic), gray beard, full beard natural (less than 12 inches and more than 12 inches). There also will be two Best in Show Awards. With the main event Saturday night, other events include a pre-party Friday at Recovery Room Tavern, a lunch Saturday afternoon at Tattooed Moose and a brunch Sunday at Holy City Brewing. Lowcountry Women with Wings is the beneficiary of this event; the organization provides education and support services to women diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

Bluegrass and Country Music Hoe Down
Lone Star Barbecue and Mercantile will host its 13th annual Bluegrass and Country Music Hoe Down. The three-day event will feature a weekend full of music and family-oriented fun, and as most of the performances are outside, attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and/or blankets. Thunder Alley will perform two sets on Friday, with Cindy Lampley taking the stage between. The Lone Star Pickin' Parlor will get things started on Saturday, with the Sugar Loaf Mountain Boys and Mandy Addy and The Diving Horses Country Band keeping things going. Sunday will see performances by The Claude Lucas Bluegrass Band, Norm LeBlanc and The Jordan Igoe Band.

Charleston Waterkeeper, a local nonprofit that is dedicated to protecting Lowcountry waterways, will again host its popular Water Ball to raise funds for its initiatives. The fifth annual event will highlight the role water plays in Charleston's community through live music, decadent food and interactive art. Attendees will dance the night away to a variety of musical talents while sipping on libations and enjoying dishes with products from or inspired by the water. New this year will be a " 'water machine' work of art in which guest are invited to thread a ribbon through a loom."

Share Our Suzy (SOS)'s Memorial Day Weekend Party
Share Our Suzy ("SOS"), a local nonprofit that raises money and resources to assist and support breast cancer patients from diagnosis to remission in honor of the late Suzy McGrane, will host its 10th annual memorial "fun-raiser" event. Featuring live music, refreshments and more, the party serves as a fundraiser for the program. Indecision and Five Way Friday will both perform live music. Food by Home Team BBQ and adult beverages are included in the ticket price.

NPC Junior USA Bodybuilding Championship

RiverDogs 'Re-Opening Night'
After their April 7 home opener was rained out, the Charleston RiverDogs opted to have a second opening night called "Re-Opening Night." "We had so many exciting things planned for Opening Night that we don't want to discard them," said General Manager Dave Echols. Re-Opening Night will feature a pre-game parade that wraps around the outfield warning track that will highlight many staples of Charleston, including the College of Charleston cheerleaders, the North Charleston High School marching band, the South Carolina Stingrays' mascot Cool Ray, The Citadel Bulldogs' mascot Spike, the guys from the Holy City Beard & Moustache Society and more. Even Santa is expected to join in on the fun. As the parade concludes, the 2014 RiverDogs will be introduced as they enter the stadium on horse-drawn carriages. On hand to perform "The Star-Spangled Banner" will be "American Idol" finalist Elise Testone.
