South Carolina's gas prices are the lowest in the nation just days from a busy spring travel weekend.
AAA's daily fuel report today said the average price in the Palmetto State was $3.35 for a gallon of regular unleaded, down eight cents from a week ago and down 29 cents from a year ago.
Alabama, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Tennessee are the next cheapest, with prices averaging around $3.40. Hawaii had the pricest gas at $4.59.
Of the major metro areas in South Carolina. Columbia and Greenville-Spartanburg area had the cheapest gas at $3.30.
The average price in the state is highest in Charleston at nearly $3.41.
Tom Crosby of AAA Carolinas said the prices should pretty well hold into the Memorial Day weekend, although he added that sometimes stations notch up their price a penny or so as big travel weekends approaches.
