Sheriff’s deputies arrest man suspected of wounding two in West Ashley area drug deal

Franklin Othell Williams Jr., 28, of Cambridge Avenue in North Charleston faces two counts of attempted murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Charleston County sheriff’s deputies made an arrest Thursday in an apparent drug deal that ended with one man shot and another pistol whipped.

Franklin Othell Williams Jr., 28, of Cambridge Avenue in North Charleston faces two counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, sheriff’s Maj. Eric Watson said.

The arrest was made in connection with a shooting July 12 at 368 Douglas Ave., outside of West Ashley.

Williams went to the home for a drug deal, an arrest affidavit stated. Once there, an argument ensued between him and two other men regarding the price of the drugs, the document stated.

Williams fired a .45-caliber pistol, striking one of the men in the stomach, the affidavit alleged. A second man was pistol whipped in the forehead, causing a severe cut, the document stated.

Both wounded men were transported to Medical University Hospital for treatment.

Williams is in the Charleston County jail pending a bond hearing.
