UPDATE: The severe weather threat is over. Charleston police are reporting that Jonathan Lucas Street and Ashley Avenue in the area of Medical University Hospital are closed due to flooding.
UPDATE: The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch through 9 p.m. in the tri-county area.
The watch includes Charleston, Dorchester, Edisto Beach, Moncks Corner, St. George, Summerville and Walterboro.
EARLIER: Severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon in the Charleston area, according to the National Weather Service.
The storms could bring damaging wind gusts from mid-afternoon into tonight. The weather service issued a hazardous weather outlook this morning. The chance of rain is 30 percent. Otherwise the forecast calls for partly sunny skies today, with a high near 88.
Friday’s chance of rain is 50 percent, possibly heavy, mainly after 11 a.m., with a high near 89.
Saturday should be mostly sunny, with a high near 91, with a slight chance of rain before 8 a.m. and a 30 percent chance after 2 p.m.
Sunday should be mostly sunny, with a high near 90 and a 30 percent chance of rain.
