Severe thunderstorm warning includes southern Charleston County

A hazardous weather outlook and small-craft advisory is in effect for this afternon and tonight.

Update 2:20 p.m.: A severe thunderstorm warning that includes portions of Colleton and Charleston counties has been issued until 3:30 p.m.

The area includes Edisto Beach, Edisto Island, Rockville and Bennetts Point.

Storms could include 70 mph wind gusts that damage to trees, mobile homes, roofs and outbuildings.

Severe thunderstorms are possible in the Lowcountry this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

A hazardous weather outlook that includes the Charleston area has been issued between 2 p.m. and midnight. Some storms could have winds of more than 60 mph and hail an inch in diameter, as well as heavy rain and lightning,

Where it’s not raining, today will be hot and humid, with a high near 94 and a heat index as high as 107, according to the weather service.

Looking ahead for the rest of the week:

Wednesday: High near 94, heat index around 106, 40 percent chance of rain.

Thursday: High near 91, 30 percent chance of rain.

Friday: Mostly sunny, high near 90.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, high near 92, 30 percent chance of rain.

Sunday: Partly sunny, high near 91, 30 percent chance of rain.
