Seminar on Yorktown’s role at Battle of Midway is Thursday at Patriots Point

The Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum in Mount Pleasant is hosting a forum on the aircraft carrier Yorktown’s role at the Battle of Midway at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum is hosting a free community program titled “Mayday at Midway: The Sinking of the U.S.S. Yorktown” on Thursday.

The event starts at 7 p.m. and will feature a panel of veterans who fought aboard the aircraft carrier during the World War II Battle of Midway. The carrier was sunk after being struck by three bombs and four torpedoes. But the battle is seen as an American victory that halted the expansion of Japanese aggression in the Pacific.

Guests are encouraged to arrive early Thursday night. Seating is limited and available on a first come, first served basis. Admission and parking are free.
