A second arrest has been made in an execution-style killing on Charleston’s East Side last month.
Seth Smith, 34, of Green Park Avenue in West Ashley, the second suspect in the April 18 slaying of George Akeem Bennett, was taken into custody Wednesday morning near Walterboro by the U.S. marshals, Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis said.
Bennett, 28, of North Charleston was fatally shot about 11:30 a.m. as he sat in a car at the Wraggborough Extension public housing complex at Reid and East Bay streets. Witnesses told police a man jumped out of a black Cadillac, shot Bennett to death and jumped back in before the car sped off with a squeal of tires.
Smith’s brother, Bryant Michael Smith, 30, who lives at the same address, was arrested Saturday and charged with murder.
Police said the brothers tried to disguise and dismantle the car after the killing to cover up the crime.
