The search for a 23-year-old woman continued near the Ravenel Bridge Monday.
A Highway Patrol trooper found a black Honda Accord unoccupied and running on the bridge about 5:30 a.m. Saturday. Charleston police later identified 23-year-old Elizabeth Ashley Ward as the last known driver of the car.
Ward is black, 5 feet 9 inches tall and 180 pounds. She was last seen wearing a multicolored beanie, a plaid shirt, a denim jacket and blue jeans.
Investigators found an iPad and earplugs inside the car. Police closed a lane of the bridge Saturday, while officials from the Highway Patrol, the Mount Pleasant Police Department, the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to the scene. Authorities later suspended the search.
Charleston Police Harbor Patrol, the Coast Guard and the S.C. Department of Natural Resources searched from dawn until dusk Sunday for Ward. The Coast Guard also broadcast an alert to mariners.
The same crew resumed its search Monday.
