COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina’s food stamps program is going down for half a day so the state can switch vendors.
The Department of Social Services administers the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP. The agency says it’s moving its services over to Xerox EBT Services over the weekend and needs to disrupt service for a little while to do that.
Starting at 11 p.m. Saturday, recipients won’t be able to make purchases using their electronic benefits transfer cards. Officials say service should be back up and running at 10 a.m. Sunday.
DSS says the disruption affects about 400,000 households across South Carolina. After the switch, recipients should be able to use their same EBT cards to buy food at authorized retailers.
